Offered is a nice small coaster / cup plate marked on the reverse side: Old English Staffordshire Ware, Made in Staffordshire England, Alfred Meakin, Imported for E. F. Larson, Lee Museum, Gettysburg, PA. Jonroth England. This is blue and white cup plate. Measures 4 3/8 inches in diameter. In very good condition. Comes from a smoke-free environment. An eCRATER member shared the following information regarding the maker: Jonroth, the American importer that had this piece produced by Meakin for their Gettysburg client, wasn't founded until 1909 -- 50 years after the demise of cup plates. Their very small plates -- 4 1/2" to 4 3/4 " if made by Adams, a bit smaller when done by other potteries, were designed to be, and marketed as COASTERS. Folks who traveled by auto during 1950s and 1960s stopped at historic sites where Jonroth's products were sold. They would quickly collect enough full size plates. Coasters were the answer.
